Each year, the General Assembly of Virginia considers a variety of legislation proposals that will have a direct impact (positive or negative) on professions and businesses regulated by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services ("DCJS"). In fact, most rules that impact how these professions do business result from legislation passed into law by the General Assembly. Indeed, to maintain a competitive edge in their industry, DCJS-regulated businesses should engage experienced advocates to lobby for their interests before the General Assembly.
As a Senior Assistant Attorney General & Chief of Prosecutions at the Virginia Office of the Attorney General, James Towey served for four years as a lead member of the Attorney General's Legislative Team. James later served as the Director of the Virginia State Crime Commission, a legislative agency charged with providing guidance to the General Assembly on matters involving crime and public safety. These experiences have provided James with detailed knowledge of the workings of the Virginia General Assembly. James Towey assists clients in all steps of the legislative process - from drafting new legislation and obtaining legislative patrons to introduce a new bill to advocating for the passage (or defeat) of legislation before legislative committees. James is a powerful and effective advocate to protect and promote the interests of businesses that fall under the regulatory oversight of DCJS.
